Query Limits#

Every Squirro instance carries a maximum number of questions that Squirro Chat answers. Once the number of questions answered passes that maximum, Squirro Chat stops answering new ones until the maximum is raised. This page explains what the limit covers and what to do when an instance reaches it.

Scope of the Limit#

The limit belongs to the Squirro instance, not to any individual who uses it.

  • No per-user limit

Squirro Chat does not restrict the number of questions or prompts an individual user can submit. There is no per-user quota to assign, monitor, or top up.

  • Shared across users and projects

Every user and every project on the instance draws down the same shared count. Questions asked in one project reduce what remains for all other projects.

  • Cumulative rather than periodic

The count adds up over the working life of the instance. It is not a rate limit, and it does not reset each day, month, or session.

Reaching the Maximum#

Once the count passes the maximum, Squirro Chat stops answering new questions and returns an error reporting the maximum and the number of questions already answered.

The error message refers to a trial allowance. The same wording appears on every instance, whatever license applies, so read it as a prompt to have the maximum reviewed rather than as a statement about your license.

Reaching the maximum affects new answers only. Conversation history stays readable, saved prompts stay in place, and no content is removed.

Raising the Maximum#

The maximum is set per instance and is not exposed in the Squirro web interface. To have it reviewed and raised, visit the Squirro Support website and submit a technical support request for licensing information.

Include the error message shown in Squirro Chat, since it reports both the maximum in force and the number of questions answered so far.

Other Chat Limits#

Two further limits constrain how many questions reach Squirro Chat at once. Both are independent of the instance maximum described above.

  • Batch Q&A widget

Each widget caps the number of questions it holds and the number of answers it requests in parallel. For more information, see the Batch Q&A page.

  • Prompt Library

The number of saved prompt templates is not capped, though the name and body of each prompt are. For more information, see the Prompt Library page.
