Search in Squirro Neo#

Search looks through the documents in your project and returns the ones that match. Use it when you want to find a document rather than ask a question about one. To ask a question instead, see the Chat page.

Open it by selecting the Search icon in the navigation bar.

Building a Query#

A query is made of the words you type and the filters you apply. Either can come first, and you can add or change the other at any point.

Entering a Query#

Type what you are looking for into the search input field. Results appear below and refresh shortly after you stop typing, so you do not have to submit the search yourself. Press Enter to search immediately rather than waiting.

As you type, Neo suggests queries drawn from the content in your project. Select a suggestion to run it in place of what you have typed, or press Tab to take the highlighted one.

Select Clear search input to empty the field and start again.

Filtering#

Filters narrow a result set. The filter controls sit above the results and apply as soon as you choose a value, and each filter you add narrows the results further.

Each filter offers a list of values, with a search box of its own when the list is long. Select the values you want to keep. The filter shows how many of the available values you have selected.

You can adjust a filter in several ways:

  • Operator

Decides how a filter treats the values you selected. any of, shown as ≈, matches documents carrying any one of them. equals, shown as =, matches an exact value, and not equals, shown as ≠, excludes it. Each filter shows the operator it is using beside its name.

  • Pin

Keeps a filter you use often in view. Pinned filters stay visible as you work.

  • Order

Drag a filter to move it. The order is yours to arrange and does not change the results.

Filters you do not see at first are under More Filters, which has its own search box for finding one by name. Select Clear All to drop every filter at once and return to the unfiltered results.

Understanding the Results#

The number of matching documents appears above the results.

Each result shows the document title, where it came from, when it was created, and any labels it carries, along with a short extract of a few lines from the document itself. Search highlights matching words in the extract, so you can see why a document matched.

Documents carry a status of New, Unread, or Read, which helps you keep track of what you have already been through.

Use the sort control to reorder the results. The options are Relevance, Date (Newest), Date (Oldest), Title (A-Z), Title (Z-A), and Trending. Sorting by relevance puts the closest matches first and is the usual choice.

Select a result to open the document and read it in full. From there you can summarize it, or start a conversation about it with Add to new chat.

If a search returns nothing, widen it. Remove a filter, try different words, or turn smart search on so that it matches related wording as well.
